Both the Ultimaker and the LulzBot are excellent filament-based 3D printers. Generally, we recommend the Ultimaker for first-time users due to its ease of use. It is also a great 3D printer for smaller prints requiring precision. The LulzBot printers are recommended for those who want to 3D print in materials other than white PLA plastic. There is no cost for using the LulzBot and Ultimaker 3D printers.
The Formlabs Form 2 Stereolithography (SLA) 3D printer is an advanced 3D printer capable of delivering high-precision prints using photopolymerization, a method where liquid resin is cured into hardened plastic by a UV laser. Contact the Makers Lab about doing a free test print on the Form 2 3D printer. Otherwise, we ask that you purchase your own resin and tank and bring to the Makers Lab.
