Please note that only DPH staff based at ZSFG, or those who have a specific split appointment between ZSFG and another location, are able to use these resources and processes.
This guide covers the basics of searching our licensed databases to find articles directly available for DPH staff at ZSFG as well as the process of requesting interlibrary loans for articles or book chapters not immediately available through those resources.
- Go to the ZSFG Library homepage.
- Click the Resources for DPH at ZSFG link on the right side of the screen.
- You'll see a list of databases and search tools licensed for DPH staff at ZSFG. Use these resources first to determine whether an article you are looking for is available to you without having to submit an interlibrary loan request.
PubMed is the most commonly used database to search for relevant articles, and the link is configured specifically for DPH users at ZSFG:
- When you click on an article of interest in your search results, options for accessing the article will display under the heading Full Text Links on the right side of your screen.
- Try the first option(s) to get the article directly from a publisher.
- If there are no publisher options or you are unable to access the article directly, use the ZSFG Full Text option instead. This will either give you a link to the text if available or an instruction to submit an interlibrary loan request if it is not.
Please note that we no longer accept emails asking for articles. This allows us to be more accurate with our records and more specific when addressing each request. Interlibrary loan requests should be submitted by the process below after searching licensed resources first. If a request is determined to be for a resource held by the ZSFG Library, it will be returned with instructions for finding the item.
- Go to the ZSFG Library homepage.
- Click the Resources for DPH at ZSFG link on the right side of the screen.
- Click Request articles and books to expand the section with details of the process. At this time, we are not accepting requests for full physical books. Complete ebook publications are unable to be borrowed via interlibrary loan.
- Click the link for the request process for DPH.
- In the right-hand column, under the heading Make a request, click the Provide a citation link.
- Review the introductory material and submit the form with information about your request. You must use a sfdph.org email address for your request.
