By managing your copyright, you can retain the rights to:
- Distribute copies of your articles to your students.
- Use portions of your articles in subsequent publications (e.g., figures).
- Grant others permission to use your work.
- Place the article in an open access repository such as PubMed Central and eScholarship.
How?
- The open access policies of the University of California allow UC authors to make the final author version of their scholarly articles publicly accessible on eScholarship, the UC open publishing platform. No payment to the publisher is required, and authors do not need to modify their publication agreements.
- UC's Copyright webpage outlines copyrights related to scholarly works, and who owns the copyright for works created at UC.
- See UC Berkeley Library's Managing Copyrights & Negotiating Agreements page for additional guidelines for author management of copyrights.
