UCSF Library Cost Study

The UCSF Finance Office is conducting an anonymous survey to determine how library services and materials are used. The survey will be conducted monthly during randomly selected two-hour periods from January 2025 through December 2025. Data collected will be used to meet federal reporting requirements and to help establish funding allocations for the university.

Responding to the surveys will benefit UCSF and participation is encouraged. 

  • There will be an online survey conducted twice monthly during selected 2-hour periods from January 2025 through December 2025. Users accessing the library's website, online collections, and online services will be asked to complete a short, pop-up survey before accessing resources. 
  • There will be in-person space surveys running at both the Parnassus Heights and Mission Bay library locations. During selected 2-hour periods, library visitors will be given a paper survey and asked to complete it before they leave.
  • Survey time is expected to be less than two minutes for both the web and in-person surveys.

What types of questions are asked? 

Both surveys ask affiliation, classification, and the purpose of their library use. In-person surveys ask about materials and services utilized.

Will someone need to answer the survey more than once? 

During the twelve months, a user may receive the survey more than once. However, they will not receive the in-person and web-based survey on the same day. 

Personal Data and Privacy

No personal information will be collected unless a respondent chooses to do so.
